Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent to the third-party provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its result under its own terms. We do not keep a separate log of the search words on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, we retain the message as needed to answer and maintain the exchange. We keep that correspondence within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our systems automatically receive basic technical details when a page loads, including:
- The referring site, when one is reported
- Your device category and operating system
- The browser name and version in use
- The internet protocol address assigned to the device
- Pages viewed, time spent, and page-view timestamps
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device to help measure how visitors move through the site. Analytics providers combine that traffic information so we can see which pages are used and where visits end. Browser controls can block or remove cookies, though disabling them may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
Collected information is used only for routine site operations and related functions:
- Routing a search request to the provider that runs the selected tool
- Finding and repairing errors or performance problems
- Measuring which Marquette County reference pages are useful
- Operating the site and improving page speed
- Displaying advertising that may reflect user interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The site identifies where Marquette County material can be requested from the sheriff, Wisconsin Circuit Court, Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Information Bureau, and Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not compiled into a consumer report or a file about another person. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes shown on some pages. Information submitted through those boxes is covered by the provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider decides how long it keeps data and when it shares data. Read those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Marquette County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin court portals, DOJ or DOC pages, legal resources, and outside tools. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy rules apply. Review them before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may measure activity across websites to select ads. That processing occurs through their services and policies.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to:
- Analytics services that measure traffic and site performance
- Search providers that process a query submitted to their tool
- Advertising networks that serve ads on the site
- A court or government authority acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
We use customary safeguards for information under our control. No internet system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that such information was provided, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary with the law that applies where you live. Wisconsin's Public Records Law, Wis. Stat. §§ 19.31-19.39, governs records of public authorities, while criminal-identification data held by Wisconsin DOJ is addressed in Wis. Stat. §§ 165.83-165.84. Those public-record statutes do not turn this private site into a government custodian. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Opt out of processing where the governing law supplies that choice
- Request deletion of personal data where required
- Ask us to correct inaccurate personal information
- Request access to personal information we hold about you
Updates to This Policy
We may revise this policy as practices or legal duties change. A revised policy will appear here with an updated effective date, and continued use will be governed by the posted version.
Effective date: August 11, 2026
